Over 200 participants showcase the Plurality of Law & Development at the 4th annual LDRN conference in Berlin

On 24 – 27 September 2019, over 200 researchers and practitioners gathered in Berlin for the Law and Development Research Network (LDRN)’s fourth and biggest annual conference, hosted by the Humboldt University Law Faculty’s Chair of Public Law & Comparative Law.

The conference theme – “The Plurality of Law and Development” – was visibly put into practice as 55 panels covered a vast mosaic of issues, including historical and theoretical aspects of law and development, public law and socio-economic development, development finance,  human rights, gender and legal pluralism.

A whole track was also dedicated to conversations with practitioners from intergovernmental, state and private institutions, as well as book launches where the latest academic research was on display.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Katharina Pistor (Columbia Law School), Justice Madan Lokur (Supreme Court of India) and David Trubek (University of Wisconsin – Madison).

The conference was once again a highlight of the year for LDRN partner institutions, individual members and other scholars and practitioners from 39 countries to come together and form connections over law and development. Over 60% of participants travelled from outside Europe to join the conference, with 25% receiving travel grants for researchers from the South, making this an even more global occasion.
